At Robina State High School, we have a proud tradition of producing outstanding baseball players who have gone on to play in major baseball leagues around the world including the United States, Japan and Europe. We have had 4 players from Robina High School sign professional contracts (with the Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers) and more than 50 have transitioned to play college baseball with scholarships.
Baseball Experiences
Baseball is a sport played globally, and students in our program have the opportunity to play baseball in places they only ever imagined. Biannually our team has traveled to Japan to experience a culture where baseball is their most popular sport. We play against a variety of high school teams including Urawa Gakuin (one of the best Baseball High Schools in all of Japan), participate in their rigorous training sessions and attend major league games and other attractions. Often, we have teams from U.S.A., Taiwan and Japan who visit us for training and games throughout the year. These opportunities enable our players to see what it is really like to play against the best.
We also participate in the Australian High Schools' Baseball Championships around Australia which is always a highlight. High performing baseball students also have opportunities to represent our school, Gold Coast, Queensland and Australia, with baseball scouts regularly coming to watch our players for possible inclusion at the highest level.
In our, All-Girls Diamond Sports program, our players will advance their baseball and softball skills representing Robina State High School in various tournaments across Queensland and Australia. With softball being reintroduced into Tokyo Olympics and the new Women's Australian Baseball League starting, we see this as a growth market for female students looking to pursue a sporting career in either of these sports.
Career Opportunities
Student pathways are a major focus for our Baseball Academy. Teaching staff and coaches track each student's physical and academic performance from Year 7 through to Year 12 and plan with them one-on-one for their futures beyond high school.
Over the years Robina State High School has forged strong relationships with several colleges in the US. Players who demonstrate the qualities required to go to that next level will be recommended by our coaching staff to a variety of colleges where scholarships are also available. This is one of the great opportunities provided by Robina State High School's Baseball Academy.
Recent Successes
Session Design
Each week our players participate in four baseball sessions including field sessions, athlete development sessions (gym), and theory classes focusing on player development. Our training sessions focus on all aspects of the game of baseball. It is not unusual to see several groups of our players working with coaches focusing on a variety of skill sets required to be the best they can be.
Hitting in our purpose built batting cages, pitching in our bullpen, fielding and throwing across our baseball diamond, running on our athletics track, working out in our state of the art gym – all of this and more is provided on site to all students in the Baseball Academy at Robina State High School.
Coaching Staff
Our coaching team comprises of former professional and
college players who are now able to pass on their experiences to our current
student group. Students in the Baseball Academy also have access to and support
from professional coaches who regularly work with Major League coaches for
player development and future planning.
