The Kingfisher Program (formerly known as the Academic Excellence Program) at RSHS provides students with opportunities and challenges to extend and enrich their academic ability shaping them into independent, critical and creative thinkers who are ready to embrace and adapt in the 21st century.
The Kingfisher Program will engage students in a differentiated version of the Australian curriculum that has increased depth, complexity and richness.
Students will to conduct investigations and inquiries into real world learning challenges at a far deeper level than the standard curriculum. As a result of this, Kingfisher students will gain a far deeper understanding of the learning content as well as and refined inquiry and investigation skills.
Key Program Features
Learning challenges in the Kingfisher curriculum are set a higher and more complex level than the standard curriculum. This requires students to develop higher order thinking and problem solving skills particularly when applied to real world situations.
An enriched curriculum exposes students to a wider variety of academic challenges and experiences such as participation in academic challenges and competitions and excursions to learning festivals, museums and exhibits.
Finally, students are enabled the opportunities to engage themselves in self-guided learning and independence to cater for their own areas of interests and specialisation.
