Golf

Our Golf Academy provides wonderful opportunities for a wide range of students. There is a heavy focus on the application of a ‘holistic’ approach to golf specialising in; golf posture screening, golf specific fitness, sports psychology, skills testing, nutrition-hydration, round statistical analysis, golf course charting /mapping and golf rules.

Career Opportunities

In 2014 we were excited to announce the Golf Academy has a formal agreement with the Australian PGA to have Years 11 and 12 students complete a Cert II- Sports Orientated Participation, which will then be a credit towards the first year of a PGA Traineeship. The certificate will be completed within the Golf subject, instruction through Shane Stevenson and issued through the Australian PGA.

Service Providers

Through our resident professional, David Nable (QAS assistant golf coach) we have formed very strong links with internationally acclaimed high performance staff over the past four years. Students work with 3D Biomechanics expert Ryan Lumsden and Physiotherapist Josh Meyer who are involved with the High Performance division of Golf Australia and Queensland Academy of Sport.

Golfers are regularly skills tested using industry leading equipment S.A.M. Putt Lab, TrackMan Launch Monitor and GRIP skills testing.

Golf Experiences

Robina State High School has a purposely built golf practice facility featuring two pitching greens, greenside and fairway bunkers and three target greens on a 300m driving range and indoor putting facility. All golf equipment is Tour quality Titleist, including Pro V1 balls used as range balls.

Students qualifying for the Australian Junior Amateur Championships attend this event as a Golf Program excursion with many expenses heavily subsidised. Previous excursions have been to Tasmania in 2010 and Sydney in 2011.

Students play at leading Gold Coast courses: Lakelands, Robina Woods, Colonial, Sanctuary Cove, Burleigh and RACV Royal Pines during the twenty five allocated golf rounds during the year.

High Performance Tier

The Golf Academy is continuing to evolve to provide greater opportunities for the development of our students at Robina SHS. We are the only school in Australia to have worked with the Golf Australia (G.A.) High Performance personal since 2007. The new High Performance Tier of the Golf Academy is designed through input with G.A. to further enhance the opportunities for elite development. It is highlighted by:

1. Increased use of technologies – SAM Putt Lab and TrackMan
2. Greater access to G.A. staff – Ryan Lumsden (3D Biomechanics), Stuart Leong (Aim Point and Shots to Hole), Dr Noel Blundell (psychologist) and Josh Meyer (physiotherapist).
3. Increased content and contact time to structured coaching sessions.
4. Greater player compliance to develop quality practice structures through individual parent feedback.

The High Performance Tier is most suited to students looking at elite development resulting in squad selection, playing careers and competing at a state, national and international level. Students in this tier will be in a greater position for recommendations to be placed on ‘watch lists’ through the data collection from Tier 1 and associated results. Students in Years 7-9 are strongly advised to consider this option as their development can be over a greater number of years for potentially greater results.
