At Robina State High School we have a proud tradition of producing outstanding baseball players that have gone on to play in major baseball leagues around the world including the United States, Japan and Europe. Each week our players participate in up to four baseball sessions including gym sessions, field sessions and theory classes focusing on player development.
Baseball is a sport played world-wide, and students in our program get the opportunity to play baseball in places they only ever imagined. Biannually our team travels to Japan to experience a culture where baseball is their national sport. We play against a variety of high school teams including Urawa Gakuin (the Number 1 Baseball High School in all of Japan), participate in their rigorous training sessions and attend Major League Games and other attractions. Often we have teams from American, Taiwan and Japan that visit us for training and games throughout the year. These opportunities enable our players to see what it is really like to play against the best. We also participate in the Australian High Schools Baseball Championships each year around Australia which is always a highlight.
Our training sessions focus on all aspects of the game of baseball. It is not unusual to see several groups of our players all at once working with our coaches focusing on their particular skill set required to be the best they can be. Hitting in our purpose built batting cages, pitching in our bullpen, fielding and throwing across our baseball diamond on site at school, running on our athletics track, working out in our state of the art gym – all of this and more is provided to all students in the Baseball Academy at Robina High.
Student pathways is a major focus for our Academy. Teaching staff and coaches track each student’s physical and academic performance from Year 7 right through to Year 12 and plan with them one-on-one their futures beyond high school. We have had a high number of students attend Colleges in the USA and Japan as well as those that have gone on to professional careers.
Our coaching staff too, have had a range of successes during their careers as players and now as coaches. Head Coach, Kevin Fenn, is the current Queensland Coach and Gold Coast Development Officer where he oversees all baseball programs in our region. His team comprises of former professional and college players who are now able to pass on their experiences to our current student group.
