Learning at Robina State High School features an integration of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting that meets the diverse needs of our students and the community. We have implemented all available Key Learning Area Outcomes syllabi in Year 8 and across SOSE, HPE, Technology, Arts, LOTE, Science and English in Year 9. Our Year 10 framework allows for students to trial semester length subjects based on the senior curriculum enabling them to make more informed subjects choices for their senior years. This new approach will enhance the way we prepare students for the challenges of Years 11 and 12.

Our students and parents are very satisfied with the level of access to computers at school. Our staff are engaged with the Information and Communication Technology competencies which allows them to demonstrate continuous improvement in their ability to use technology in the classroom.

Focus on Literacy

At our school literacy is not just the purvey of the English Department, all subject areas in our school are committed to providing educational opportunities and learning experiences that ensure our students are continuously improving their literacy skills within the context of the subjects they study. We recently trialed a series of literacy tests in Year 8. This process will allow a check of the level of individual student improvement and provide a guide for the improvement of literacy programs in the school. It also allows us to target those students with higher or lower than average literacy levels to ensure they receive appropriate support or extension as is necessary. Alongside this, various departments, such as Social Science and Business Education, are researching the way we use and assess literacy in our school. This team oversees the placement, in each of the faculty areas, of facilitators of literacy with the knowledge and skills to identify and strategically plan the curriculum elements that address the literacy needs of our students across each of the departments within the school. Robina State High School is maintaining its dynamic approach in the way we deal with the education of our students and in particular our commitment to the provision of literacy education that is for the real world. The staff working in the Resource Centre are actively involved in supporting student literacy.
