Laver House got it's name from William Henry Laver.

William Laver came from England to Queensland at the age of twelve. His family settled firstly at Cressbrook, near Caboolture. He later married Margaret Dairs and in 1870 moved with his family to Mudgeeraba. They built a house on the hill above the present Uniting Church . Their property was approximately 200 acres.

William and Margaret LaverHe was the first man to settle Little Nerang (Neranwood) and used 640 acres as a dairy farm.

The Mudgeeraba Hotel opened on the 21 December 1883. William Laver, the proprietor, advertised that the premises were only five miles from Burleigh Heads. The hotel was surrounded by excellent lagoons for ducks, swans and other wildlife.

In 1914 the Laver family commissioned the building of a new hotel Mudgeeraba Exchange Hotel opposite the railway station.

William Laver was the first person to be buried in the Mudgeeraba cemetery.
