Robina Art Students to go for State |
Two of our four of Arts students who exhibited in the new Creative Generations Gold Coast regional art exhibition (formerly the Ministers Art Awards) were selected for the state wide exhibition - 2 of the 6 students chosen to represent our region! The students' work - a painting and an animation will be exhibited at GOMa next year and the two students will also attend an artist in residence camp later in the year. This is a major achievement and the third year that Robina has been selected for this state award and exhibition! Congratulations to all the students who exhibited and to Ashlyn McEldowney and Jesse Vogelaar on their success.

Gold Coast Dance Eisteddfod Winners |
Robina High School's Dance Troupe secured third place with their hip hop routine in what was an incredibly talented and difficult section of the Gold Coast Dance Eisteddfod. Schools came from Sydney, Ipswich and Brisbane to compete against the Gold Coast schools - all determined to take home one of the coveted trophies. The second section was equally as talented and we also managed to gain a highly commended for our jazz piece. What a talented dance troupe we have! |

Science Week at Robina SHS |
During Science week the Science Department at Robina SHS ran exciting workshops for its Junior Science (Yrs 8-9) students and the top science students from our feeder primary schools - Robina, Mudgeeraba, Gilston and Merrimac State Primary Schools. Students got to see and touch liquid nitrogen, launch water rocket's, crush cans with changes in temperature, bend water and make super balls. Robina High School students also competed in the inaugural Mouse Trap Car Competition. Students had to design and make a car powered only by the spring in a mousetrap. The winner was a Year 8 student with a well-designed car that travelled over 20m. His prize was a $150 JB HiFi Voucher. |

Griffith University Languages Contest |
Many of our Junior Language students competed in the annual Languages Speech Contest at Griffith University in August. The contest involves all Language students in the same year level across the Gold Coast (public and private schools combined). Robina High students claimed first and second place in the Year 9 Japanese section (with the second place student coming from our Year 8 Japanese Immersion class - she was competing in the level up). In Year 10 Japanese one of our students came third. Our Year 8 and 10 German Language students all did very well, each achieving Highly Commended in their sections. Language continues to be a strong feature of our curriculum! |

Golfing Excellence Shines on World Stage |
Former Robina High School student and professional golfer, Amy Yang, has enjoyed her first win as a pro after shooting a 9 under 63 in the final round to win the Scandinavian TPC, hosted by Annika Sorenstom. Amy finished with a 54-hole total of 202, 14-under par, and this victory will place Amy at the top of the Order of Merit/Money List in Europe. Amy won the ANZ Ladies Masters as a 16-year-old high school student in 2006, becoming the first amateur to win a major women's professional golf tournament in Australia. Our school's Golfing Excellence Program continues to go from strength to strength and we are proud of each of the player's achievements.
Haeji Kang is also a former Robina High Golfing student who has won her first professional event. She took out the inaugural $100,000 Greater Richmond Duramed FUTURES Classic during a sudden-death playoff at Richmond Country Club, VA. Haeji, who finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 205, 11-under-par, triumphed when her playoff opponent, Sophia Sheridan of Mexico, conceded before the first extra hole had been completed. Haeji was an International Student here at Robina for many years, leaving the school at the end of last year to pursue her professional golfing career in the US. |

"The best thing about being a writer is the freedom to spend my days daydreaming!" This is a quote from award winning, and Melbourne-based, author Archie Fusillo who visited our school. Well-known for his ability to engage boys in the art of reading and writing, Archie had his audience enthralled with stories of feature article writing for Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. Following an informal morning tea, Archie conducted a workshop to a selection of our frequent readers. The students were most impressed with Archie's stories and style. |
